Green Girl
Goodies, July 2012
My first
summer in the Midwest has led to a conclusion I thought I would never
reach: it is possible to be simply just
too hot to function. Call me a wimp but
with the thick humidity and a heat index in the low 100’s, even the evenings
can be tough to bear. In an effort to
beat the heat (since normal functioning can’t be accomplished sitting in a
swimming pool all day) smoothies have become a new best friend. For the summer and into the fall (basically
until the heat eases up!) look for a new smoothie every Sunday to help you stay
cool and healthy wherever you may be :)
*There will be recipes for each smoothie
but keep in mind the natural sugar levels in the fruit, juices and even
sweetener brands you use heavily influence the flavor so recipes may have to be
adjusted slightly to fit your taste.
Yield 1 - 2 large servings or 2 - 4 small servings
1 ea Fuji
Apple, (medium) cut into large chunks
1 ea
Nectarine, (medium) cut into large chunks
1 c
Blackberries, fresh or frozen
1 c Grapefruit
Juice
2 c Ice,
crushed if possible
2 tb Honey
-
Place the ice into the blender first.
-
Place the fruit on top of the ice and carefully
add the honey. Try to avoid getting the
honey on the sides of the blender as much as possible otherwise it won’t
incorporate as well.
-
Add the juice, blend and enjoy!
